Marketing with Twitter

Image
When you hear the word "tweet" what do you think of? Do you think of the sound that a bird makes? Or do you think of the social media app Twitter? Whatever you have picked, is ultimately correct. But today, I'm going to be talking about one of the most popular communication apps, Twitter. Chapter 6 of "Essentials of Social Media Marketing" highlights how marketing plays a huge role in the app.   Twitter can be a very powerful tool for businesses to market. While it allows users to search for deals, contact the company, and read reviews, it provides many more benefits for the business itself.    The app allows businesses to discover what's happening. For a business to succeed, it's important for them to know what conversations people are having about their company while also contributing to them to help their business. Twitter also helps businesses increase their brand awareness. Through tweets, posts, or likes, businesses can regularly communic

Lima Trip!

Image
No race this weekend? No problem. Lima trip it is! This past weekend was my first free weekend since being back this semester. My coach had myself and a few others not race to let our legs rest for conference this week and it was so nice! With all this free time, I knew I wanted to spend my day doing something fun, and a little trip to Lima was exactly what I needed.    Larkin, Abbi, and I left for Lima with Starbucks in our hands and money in our pockets waiting to be spent at the mall. Going to the mall is very dangerous for me because I always know I'm going to walk out of there spending more money than I anticipated. To no surprise, that's exactly what happened. I ended up buying these cute black yoga pants from American Eagle and a brown tank top. They both were so cute I couldn't pass them up! Larkin and Abbi spent way more than me, making me feel a little better about my purchases.   After shopping for an hour or so we grabbed lunch at Panera and talked a

Marketing with Instagram

Likes, comments, shares, posts, pictures, videos. All these words have something in common, but what? They're all components that make up one of the most popular social media apps, Instagram. With over 1.22 billion monthly active users, Instagram has taken ahold of the social media world. Chapter 5 of "Essentials of Social Media Marketing" dives into the apps marketing strategy to analyze what makes Instagram, Instagram. Instagram isn't as simple of an app as it once was when it started out. Videos have increased from 15 seconds to over a minute. Stories appear for 24 hours and then dissapear. Reels, live videos, shopping and more are now accessible in this one single app. It appears that everything you could possibly need, you can now find on Instagram. But is that a good or bad thing? One of the biggest componets of Instagram are influencers. Influencers are the people who have a huge following and use it to their advantage. They'll partner with brands, post ad

All-Ohio Championship Meet

Image
Did someone say 25 laps of fun? Because whoever said that, was wrong. The past two weekends I've raced the 5k, which is 25 laps on the indoor track. To say it was hard and exhausting is an understatment.  On Saturday our team traveled to Otterbein for the All-Ohio Championship Meet. I was really excited that I had qualified for the meet in two different events, the mile and the 5k. I knew all along that Maus was going to put me in the 5k, but a small part of me was hoping my name would somehow end up on the mile entry list. That small hope of mine was crushed when I saw I was listed for the 5k. Oh well, what's 17 more laps anyways, right? I ended up not doing as great as I was hoping for but it's a learning experience! Before college I had never raced a 5k on the indoor track, the most I had ever raced was the two mile. From what I have learned so far racing it, is that it's all about being mentally strong. You can put in countless work and run high-milage weeks before

Marketing with Facebook

Facebook: one of the most-used social media platforms in the entire world, yet it is one that doesn't seem like it would be the most popular. If you were to ask your parents or grandparents what their most used social media app was, chances are they would say Facebook. But if you were to ask you friends or your siblings, it is reasonable to assume they would answer with either Snapchat, Tik Tok or Instagram. Chapter 4 of "Essentials of Social Media Marketing" highlights the marketing aspect of Facebook and important things about the app that most of us don't even think of.   There are many different aspects to Facebook. Whether it be the Facebook Business Suite or Facebook Zero, the app has been developed to provide more opportunities than to share just pictures, videos, or life updates with your friends. What was once a simple app has now turned into an outlet for big corporations, small businesses, advertisements, new games, but most importantly, a place for p

Movie Night!

Image
Shout out to the huge winter storm that cancelled classes for two days. Much appreciated!   When we got the email that class was online, my friends and I started texting in our group chats talking about what we were going to do. Would we have another snowball fight? Go sledding? Build an igloo? All of those are fun options, and yes, we did have yet another snowball fight, but we were looking for something different, and warmer haha. My roommate Olyvia, the girl on the far right in the picture, and I have the "designated hangout room" so we knew we needed to plan something fun. After much thought, we came up with the idea for a movie night.   We texted Mj and Larkin, the other two girls in the picture, and then some of our football friends. Usually everyone would have to get up early the next morning to lift, run, or go to class but since all those things were cancelled, movie night was a go. We started the movies around 10pm and ended up watching 4 movies. By the time

Social Media Marketing Strategy

Image
Social media. Something most people use daily yet don't realize the impact it has on our lives. Whether it be scrolling endlessly through Tik Tok or posting a daily update on Facebook, how do we know whether or not we're using it correctly? Chapter three of "Essentials of Social Media Marketing" looks into how to develop a marketing strategy to correctly use social media and result in the best outcome. Overall, there are ten different steps that the book lists to create a perfect marketing strategy. One of the most important steps in my opinion was step three: establish goals, objectives and metrics. Setting goals and objectives for yourself will help your social media platform overall and help gauge how successful you will be. As humans we set goals almost daily for ourselves that it has become a second nature for us. Knowing this, we can transfer our goal setting skills into our social media world. According to the book, each person should have three social media go

Notre Dame meets Ohio Northern

Go Irish! No wait, I mean go bears! This weekend my brother Zach and his best friend Skip, who both go to the University of Notre Dame, came down to ONU. They arrived early Saturday morning to watch me race in our home meet. I've visited them about four or five times last semester so I was excited to have them down here at ONU for the first time.  After the meet we headed to Lima where we grabbed dinner at Beer Barrel with one of my best friends, Larkin. Zach had been there before but this was Skips' first time and he loved it! It was so nice catching up with them and just hanging out. After dinner we went on a little shopping trip to TjMaxx which was much needed. I ended up getting a cute shirt for a country concert festival I'm going to this summer. When we were back on campus we played some card games in my dorm and just chilled for the evening.  The next day I had to work an indoor marathon that our team was hosting at KingHorn so while I was doing that, Zach and Skip g
