Marketing with Facebook

Facebook: one of the most-used social media platforms in the entire world, yet it is one that doesn't seem like it would be the most popular. If you were to ask your parents or grandparents what their most used social media app was, chances are they would say Facebook. But if you were to ask you friends or your siblings, it is reasonable to assume they would answer with either Snapchat, Tik Tok or Instagram. Chapter 4 of "Essentials of Social Media Marketing" highlights the marketing aspect of Facebook and important things about the app that most of us don't even think of.

There are many different aspects to Facebook. Whether it be the Facebook Business Suite or Facebook Zero, the app has been developed to provide more opportunities than to share just pictures, videos, or life updates with your friends. What was once a simple app has now turned into an outlet for big corporations, small businesses, advertisements, new games, but most importantly, a place for people to stay connected.

Facebook has many components that make it such an impactful app. As we all know, the app has the basic components such as likes, comments, shares, etc. Over the years though, the list of components has grown. We now have hashtags, GIFs, call-to-action links, videos, Messenger, and the list goes on and on. As time goes on, the app has become more advanced. Businesses thrive on Facebook by posting pictures of their products, posting job opportunities or even just getting their name out there through advertisements. Ordinary people such as you and I can open Facebook and find everything we could possibly need. Whether it be checking in on our friends, buying products from Facebook Marketplace, trying out that new game, or just scrolling aimlessly through not knowing what we are going to find, the app has been accustomed to our needs.

The marketing strategy behind Facebook is beneficial for all, proving why it is the most-used social media platform in the entire world.

  1. Our age group gives us the perception that Facebook is an unpopular platform. The truth is that Facebook is one of the most useful social media platforms. Businesses can use Facebook to reach their target audiences at little to no cost. This was especially vital during the pandemic when all businesses were shutdown. One day, I might decide to join the Facebook community. Until then, I will continue to study and learn how it impacts the business world.

  2. I do agree that the platform has our age group thinking that it is meant for older people, but it really is not. There is so much that you can do with Facebook, including shopping, sharing photos or videos, playing games, and connecting to your friends and family. This platform is much greater than our generation has made it out to be. I use Facebook almost everyday to keep up with my friends and family and occasionally share about my life. It is a very useful app and I plan to keep using it regardless of the image of it being for older generations.
