Final Blog

Image
I can't believe I am writing my last and final blog for this semester! Through the last couple of months, I have really enjoyed blogging about my life and what we were doing in class. This past week has been bittersweet as my friends and I are spending as much time with each other that we can on campus until this fall. I'm excited for a nice little break and to go home but I'm sad that I won't be living with my best friends. For this final blog, I thought it would be appropriate to highlight some of the best memories I have from this second semester: 1. The snowstorm that canceled classes and practice for 2 days! My friends and I had a movie marathon, a snowball fight, and hung out until 5 in the morning. It was so much fun, and our football friends and I got closer.  2. My brother and his best friend Skip visiting and spending the weekend with me here! They watched me race at our indoor track meet, grabbed dinner at Beer Barrel and El Campo, went to mass, and hung out.

Mimic Social

This semester, our Social Media class did a lot with a simulation called "Mimic Social". Mimic Social was the world's first ever social media marketing simulation, and it turned out to be pretty effective. Through the simulation, people completing it would do various tasks such as post targeted social media ads, schedule influencers and content, balance their budget, and so on.  The simulation was geared towards a company called Buhi, an e-commerce and retail bag supplier. Through the simulation, it was our job to advertise, promote and try to sell Buhi products through different social media outlets and influencers. The content we posted, as well as where and when it was posted, effected how the advertisement was received by others. There were many rounds where we would do this, and after each round, data would be collected. We could see how many impression or clicks there were while also seeing how much revenue we earned.  Overall, I really enjoyed doing this simulation

Essentials of Social Media Marketing

Image
This week we finished up our textbook, "Essentials of Social Media Marketing". It is crazy that we are already nearing the end of this class and semester. Through the last semester I have learned so much about marketing through social media, especially through this book! Through the quizzes, videos, infographics, and text, Stukent, the publisher of the book, provided us with more than enough information on how to successfully navigate different social media apps and utilize them with marketing. I never really understood how crucial different social media apps were when companies market but after reading this book, it is easy to understand. Whether it be YouTube, Tik Tok, Instagram, or Facebook, knowing how to use these, and other apps, in the most efficient way is very beneficial to not only a company but their consumers.  Through this past semester, my eyes have been opened to the world of social media. Before taking this class, I thought social media was just a place where

Home Stretch

This past weekend was one of the most fun weekends this semester! It's hard to believe that there are only a couple weekends left here in Ada. Friday night we started off with a pasta dinner at our senior girl's house. The food was delicious and it was such a good time hanging out with everyone and bonding. The next day we had our one and only home meet, so we rested up after the dinner and hung out. I was excited to be racing at home, and it couldn't come soon enough.  Saturday morning eventually came, and I got ready for the meet. I was racing the 1500 today so I was one of the earlier events. It was such a nice day! It was warm and sunny, something we haven't really seen much of. I ended up doing decent in my race, placing 6th with a new personal best time. After I raced, I went and saw my family and hung out with them as the meet progressed. I also was able to see some of my friends from other schools that were at the meet which was really nice. After it ended, I gr

Social Media Marketing Campaigns

This week in my class we discussed social media marketing campaigns. At first, I wasn't really sure what exactly they were but now I know how much of a crucial role that they play in marketing. Launching a social media marketing campaign is important, so how exactly do you do that? Before you even launch the campaign, it is important to do two things: establish your goals and choose the idea, theme, and type of your campaign. You have to know what you want the campaign to accomplish, while also having a strong campaign that resonates with whatever your target audience is. The next steps are to determine the budget and outline what exactly your campaign paramerters are. It is crucial to lay out what resources the campaign will need so you know which funds should go where. When it comes to campaign parameters, they include hashtag uses, contest guidelines, and so on. Incentives can also be included to get more people involved by offering a reward in return. During the actual campai

Easter Weekend

Image
This weekend I was able to travel home for Easter, which I was extremely happy about. I had a lot of things planned for those short 3 days at home, but I knew I would have fun doing them. To start off the weekend, on Friday I had the pleasure of attending one of our family friend's wedding. The wedding was located about 45 minutes away from my house at this beautiful venue that overlooked a river and forest. It was such a pretty place! The wedding was a lot fun, and it was such a great day celebrating one of our close friends and her newly wedded husband. The next morning, I woke up early for a big day ahead. Even though I was at home on "break", I was racing at the All-Ohio Championships at Ohio Wesleyan, which was only 10 minutes from my house. Part of me was excited to race at another track meet, but another part of me wished I could relax at home and not worry about racing. Since the meet was in my hometown, a lot of my friends from high school came and watched me r

Social Media Podcast

Image
This week I had the pleasure of recording my first ever podcast for class. At first, I was a little skeptical about how it would go, but it actually turned out pretty decent in my opinion. For my podcast I decided to research an issue involving social media in public relations. After searching for quite some time, I settled on covering ethical issues that arise when using social media. To no surprise, there was a lot of information covered about this topic. For starters, a lack of transparency, unreported endorsements, consumer privacy breaches, and misrepresentation of a brand or organization are just a few examples of improper uses of social media. It is important for a company to remain ethical throughout their social media usage. It is important for companies to engage with their followers through social media, but it has to be in a way that doesn't take advantage of their users. Consumers put trust in the apps they are using and if the apps are dishonest, that creates an iss
